Just Enterprise: An Introduction to Tendering Workshop : Stirling

The Just Enterprise programme of tendering workshops has been designed to provide practical support for enterprising third sector organisations who want to respond to public sector tender opportunities. Facilitated by procurement experts, with contribution from buyers, the workshops are offered to at no cost to those attending. This one- day workshop is aimed at third sector organisations with little or no knowledge of public sector tendering and who want to understand the principles and processes involved.

Attendees will gain an understanding of public sector procurement and the tendering process, specifically:

  • Understanding the terminology
  • Where to find opportunities - including an overview of Public Contracts Scotland
  • Legal considerations and the rules surrounding tendering
  • How to get ready to tender
  • How buyers evaluate bids
  • Top Tips for writing a good tender

Nuts & Bolts: Fundraising - Keeping the right side of the law
Nuts & Bolts: Maximising Gift Aid

Fundraising and Gift Aid have been in the press recently. These two workshops will bring groups up to date with the changes - ensuring that groups meet legal and best practice requirements, and gain increased income through maximising tax-effective gifts.

SVE are looking for expressions of interest in both courses:

Nuts & Bolts: Fundraising – Keeping the right side of the law. Fundraising self-regulation; the Code of Fundraising Practice; Data Protection changes; opting in or out....everything is changing! This session will help you to discover what you need to know, and to do, to keep your fundraising running smoothly. Offering practical hints and tips, Susan will take you through the minefield and signpost the best way forward to keep you the right side of the law.

Nuts & Bolts: Maximising Gift Aid. Most not-for-profit groups and organisations can register with HMRC to claim Gift Aid on donations from individual taxpayers. This makes a donation of £1 worth £1.25 to your cause. This session will take you through registering, claiming and maximising income through Gift Aid; GA declarations; the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme and the 'special situations' in which GA could be claimed like membership subscriptions, volunteer expenses....

The workshops will be delivered by Susan Robinson FInstF, an experienced fundraiser and trainer who works across the UK, developing and delivering fundraising training. She has worked on the Institute of Fundraising's Small Charities and Tax-effective Giving programmes, and was involved in developing and delivering their fundraising qualifications.

The workshops will be two half-day sessions, and will be delivered over one day.  The cost of the course will be £90 for SVE members or £110 for non-members. Membership of SVE is free.

Focus

If a charity provides services under contract or charges for an event or for goods, it is involved in trading.

This seminar will distinguish between (a) trading activities within a charity; (b) a separate trading company owned by a charity and (c) non-charitable social enterprises such as CICs.

We consider the latest accounting and tax issues for charity trading, especially when charities need to register for VAT and charity-specific VAT rates.

The seminar also covers special VAT issues such as partial exemption and income outside the scope of VAT — as well as the detailed rules on when corporation tax applies to charities.

                   The definition of trading.  When can charities trade.  Contract income, sales, events on other types of trading income.  Primary purpose vs trading for fundraising purposes.

                   Supplies to Charites.  Supplies by charities.  Determining when a charity needs to register for VAT, partial exemption principles and examples.
